Community Meeting Regarding Proposed Fine Wine Shop on Broadway

By Jeremy Bressman

According to a recent email from the Edgewater Development Corporation, a fine wine and spirits shop could soon be coming to Broadway just north of Thorndale.  The Development Corp. is holding a “Community Development Review” meeting on Monday, July 30th at 6:30PM to discuss the proposed retail store.  Currently, there is a liquor moratorium on Broadway from Ardmore to Elmdale which would need to be lifted.

Liquor moratoriums are passed by the Chicago City of Council to make a specific area ‘dry’ by restricting the issuance of new liquor licenses or the transfer of licenses for various reasons.

Any resident, business or property owner within 1000 feet of the location of the proposed wine shop (5947 N Broadway) is encouraged to attend the meeting, along with members from the following community groups: BARGE, Edgewater Chamber of Commerce, Edgewater Community Council, Edgewater Development Corporation, EGA, EPIC, TAHBS, Thorndale Action Task Force (TATF), and NEBA.

That stretch of Edgewater can only benefit from nicer establishments

Nice! Then they can hold wine tastings and what not-bring a little “class” to Edgewater, especially on the Broadway stretch :)

Can there be a liquor establishment near a library? I know there is a restaurant, but a store?
