Coffee Chicago Purchased By Pizzeria Aroma Owner

Coffee Chicago PICCoffee Chicago, the long established food and beverage spot at the corner of Broadway and Berwyn, has been sold to Jim Dababneh and will reopen as Chicago Grind. You may already know Jim by regularly seeing him at his other popular Edgewater eatery, Pizzeria Aroma. His voice carries through the restaurant as he greets his customers, many that he knows by name. Now it has come time for him to expand his retail presence as his children are grown and he is seeking his next opportunities.

Let’s face it, that corner is prime! Heavy traffic is regular as people shuffle from the red line to their Andersonville homes. Unfortunately, Coffee Chicago’s business has steadily declined. Though still somewhat well attended, the space has seen little improvements or additions through the years and some have become uninterested.

Chicago GrindMr. Dababneh is about to change that. He said, “Its a killer location. However,  its been absentee owned and run from the very beginning. No money has been re-invested in the space.  The Broadway corridor and Edgewater deserve a bright, modern, contemporary cafe space. That is what Chicago Grind will provide.” He also has great plans for the menu, stating “We are teaming up with the people at Bow Truss Coffee Roasters of Lakeview to provide world class espresso and coffee beverage. The cafe will offer top quality pastries, freshly made sandwiches,  salads, pasta salads,  flatbreads, smoothies, fruit and more.”

Mr. Dababneh will spend the next couple weeks acquiring all necessary permits and buying new furniture, equipment and materials. Once this is in place he will shut down the current operation and begin the renovation.

Jim has been a neighborhood fixture over the years and has been active in the Edgewater community. He added, “I love this neighborhood.  People in Edgewater and Andersonville have been so loyal and supportive of Pizzeria Aroma.  There is no other place I’d rather do business.”
