Couldn’t care much for the restaurant, but the upstairs bar will be missed. One of the few places in A’ville where you could get a good cocktail and have a conversation without having to shout..

Wow, this is sad news! I haven’t had the chance to try the restaurant, but I was really looking forward to going upstairs again… I totally agree with “duppie”, great place… no waiting… great cocktails… acceptable noise level… bummer!

In FIne Spirits was just fine for me! Sad.

    Some locations are cursed.

Funny, before I decided to delete my Yelp account, I had given them a review stating “mark my words; this place will be closed for business within one year”. We are within that year (patting myself on the back at my fabulous future-predicting talents).
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the location, as evidenced by the other neighboring businesses that are doing just fine. LM’s problem was that their interior was not cozy/comfortable, the service was awful, the food left a massive amount to be desired and, for a French restaurant, they had like 8 wines to choose from. Sorry, but in a world-class dining city like Chicago, you need to come with an A game, not a subpar business plan like LM.
This news is not surprising by any stretch of the imagination and, while I personally would never have gone back there after a terrible experience I had (one in which they proved they do not even know how to dress a salad, something an elementary student could successfully tackle), it is always sad to see a business close up shop. I hope they actually learned something and have more success going forward, and I hope we get something great in that spot. I think virtually all of Aville would welcome IFS back, no questions asked…we didn’t want LM to begin with!
