Christmas Tree Recycling
While it may be fun to throw the thing off the balcony (not recommended) and decorate your dumpster with it, the environmentally responsible thing to do would be to recylce your Christmas tree now that the holidays are behind us. Begining tomorrow, January 5th through the 18th, the City of Chicago offers a recycling program that not only offers drop off points throughout the city, but your tree will be put to a second use as it will be ground into fragrant mulch by the Department of Streets and Sanitation and Chicago Park District forestry crews. Said mulch will be made available to residents at no cost at the same Christmas tree drop-off locations beginning Friday, January 11. The nearest drop off locations to the Edgeville Buzz coverage area are Margate Park (4921 N Marine) or Warren Park (6601 N Western).
“Recycling Christmas trees is an easy way for residents to make a big impact on the environment,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “Each year, we are able to recycle thousands of Christmas trees to divert more waste away from landfills and reuse the materials in an environmentally-friendly way.”
While you’re at it, if Santa was good to you and you have a ton of extra cardboard left over from the plethora of presents you received, Patch Landscaping, located at 6107 N. Ravenswood, collects cardboard on-site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
