Ald. Mary Ann Smith’s 1912 craftsman-style bungalow sits on a spacious, leafy corner lot in Edgewater. It’s an enviable piece of real estate.
Her property taxes are more enviable still. The 48th Ward alderman and her husband, Ronald, paid the lowest property taxes — by far — of anyone on their block in 2009.
Their property taxes for the entire year for a home worth an estimated $1 million: $3,653.
The average yearly tax bill on her block: $8,180.
