Chicago Shovels….do you?

With Snowpocalypse ’11 now all but a memory, clearing away winter’s frozen offerings may not be top of mind for area residents. Regardless, chicagoshovels.org is here to help. This corner of the City of Chicago’s website features various online services, organizational tools and even mobile apps – all aimed to expedite the snow removal process. There’s a Plow Tracker, which allows you see where snow plows are in real time, along with the Adopt-a-Sidewalk initiative (coming soon). Once it’s up and running, Adopt a Sidewalk will let you claim a sidewalk to clear via an interactive map. Snow Corps is another service, described as a “new program that connects volunteers with residents in need of snow removal – such as seniors and residents with disabilities.” Mobile apps include “2inch.es,” providing details on 2” snow routes and overnight parking restrictions, and “Was My Car Towed or Relocated”….a literally named app supporting that agonizing question.
