Chicago Bear Israel Idonije Visits Edgewater’s Third Coast Comics

Bears in our neighborhood? That’s right! Local comic shop Third Coast Comics had a special appearance from one of the well known Chicago Bear’s, Israel Idonije yesterday for an interview with CBS to discuss his comic books, The Protectors.  First launched in 2013, the comic is a story about the most amazing and skilled athletes in the world whose sole purpose is to save humanity by using their superpowers. He has said that comics helped him in his earlier years to overcome shyness and develop better reading skills. The storyline isn’t that far off from what Idonije himself is doing for the greater good.

Israel is known for being extremely active in the philanthropic community. He volunteers, donates and participates at public school events. His foundation, the Israel Idonije Foundation, is committed to impacting underserved communities by providing programs focused on social and emotional life skills.

Terry Gant, the Third Coast Comics store owner was thrilled that his store was chosen to be the location for the local CBS interview, “Isreal has really bridged the gap between sports fans and the comic book world. Our customers find it super cool that this 6’7” sports guy loves comics. It really is not the norm.”

Knowing that Idonije not only did an interview in a locally owned comic book store in our neighborhood, but also is actively involved in bettering the entire Chicago community, makes me feel pretty protected all around!
