Bryn Mawr Construction Begins, Businesses Offering Deals

imgresIt is hard to believe but the water main under Bryn Mawr Ave is 117 years old. Laid back in 1897, the pipes are older than any living human by far and as expected, have been deteriorating through the decades. The Bryn Mawr water main project will start to replace this line and guarantee the community a healthy water system for decades to come. The downside is heavy construction that will take several weeks and car traffic will be heavy (full construction details at the bottom of this story).

But there is a silver lining in this construction cloud. Not only will Bryn Mawr be getting a new water line below ground, the street itself will be completely resurfaced and paved from Sheridan to Damen.  Alderman Osterman’s office Chief of Staff, Dan Luna told EVB that money was available, so it made sense to begin the water main project now and then properly repair the street when it was finished. The State in conjunction with the City of Chicago, will give the street the final makeover once the water main project is completed.

E53e6fa49-dc38-4384-9211-ad9b3a79227cven though sidewalks and the entrance to the red line will remain open, Alderman Osterman was concerned about lost businesses on Bryn Mawr during this project. The Alderman’s office with the Edgewater Development Corporation responded with “Bryn Mawr, Open for Business”  an evening of entertainment, open houses, deals and discounts that help to support local businesses on Thursday, June 26th, 5-9pm.

Mr. Luna wants residents to know that it is business as usual on the street. He said,”While we continue to improve the infrastructure of bryn mawr, we want to strongly encourage all ward residents to continue to shop locally and support the businesses that will be affected by this large-scale construction project”.

Bryn Mawr Open For Business event will be an event not only to a counter-act possibly lost business revenue, but will also give the ward a chance to get together and take advantage of some greta events and deals. The night’s list is:
