Tweet is by far the best brunch place in the city. The food is great, and the people working there are even better. I just wish they were still open in the evening like they were a few years ago. Their prix fixe dinners were great.

The first sentence in the article pretty much sums up what has become of unique gay spaces. I accidentally happened upon one of those freak parties on Thursday nights too. Most that absolutely love this place preface their review with “I just moved here and……”.

Big Chicks used to be a fun when it was truly a gay dive bar. Over the past few years it’s become overrun by carbon-copy lumberjack hipsters with Hitler Youth haircuts and exaggerated beards. You can hardly move, let alone order a drink. No thanks.

You can’t “do your business and get out” when grown men are playing potty games and who knows what else in them for so long. I’ve only been to the back ones once because the wait was too long up front but learned that’s what they’re known for. They need to be monitored but most Chicago bars have a “back room”, it was just their version of it. A place where even the most lowly can get sex doesn’t necessarily make a great bar. Grow up gay men, we can get married now! Never noticed the bathrooms to be unsanitary but that toilet was so powerful up front that if you weren’t circumcised you might be after flushing it. Maybe there used to be some big, big chicks in there.

The bartenders were probably the best I’d ever encountered, I’m sure they have to put up with alot. The clientele, however, were the most f’d up I’d ever met in any gay bar across the country. Some are mentally ill and drive upwards of 40 miles one-way to meet up with each other on the weekend. It obviously has a following. Thank God they’re finally doing something with those boarded up buildings next door and across from it. When they started stacking those beer cases against the wall impeding the flow it was more of reason not to visit. Baffling. Hats off to this Michelle for keeping it running for so long though. I never saw her either.

Please disregard the post below from Greg, he was clearly not at the bar when the guy was so loaded he couldn’t make change, it had nothing to do with loyalty, even bar owners have an obligation to keep their employees sober and safe at work. Lay off the bathrooms dude, people piss all over the walls of the nicest pub bathrooms, do your business and get out. If it keeps away the fickle, score one for the place. I’d rather have my beer with someone else next to me who could care less what the crapper looks like. Michelle- thank you for all you’ve done for our community.

In Michelle’s defense, she does work many hours at Tweet and I see her there all the time there. I feel that she just does not want out be out late nights anymore or deal with a crowded bar. We all get older and change how we do things accordingly. Thanks for giving us a great place to hang over the years Michelle.

As one of her longtime patrons, she does not treat her most loyal employees well. I can’t imagine her reason for getting rid of Dave Douglass while keeping aloof Stuart there. She is by all accounts a horrible employer, though most of her staff would love to be part of the family, once a black sheep (make a single error or correct her) there are no roads back to redemption (she is vindictive). While still one of the best gay (or otherwise) bars in Chicago, lately it’s looking the worse for wear and the toilets are disgusting. And Michelle, you’re just not there anymore. I remember you and your staff giving me free shots when I brought new customers into your establishment. Why have you become so mean? Bring back the jukebox and hang some new pictures! And treat your staff like investments, not eye candy!

What I used to go to Big Chicks at least twice a week and Michelle is never there, so I don’t know what that article is about her working her but off there, she is never there, and I know does not treat her staff like she says she does, she says treats like family really Michelle lol.

Big Chicks is my favorite bar of all time! And everyone there is so nice. -same with Tweet! I can never get enough of this place. Michelle has a big heart and it shows!!
