Last Thursday’s Andersonville Honors Gala was the first of its kind, with representatives from the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce and local business owners on hand. The award winners themselves were given some well deserved recognition.

The Andersonville Chamber of Commerce also presented Hopleaf owner Michael Roper with the Kurt Mathiasson Award , for his dedication in working toward improving public schools. The award is named for the Andersonville resident who “opened Svea Restaurant and worked tirelessly to preserve the Swedish heritage in Andersonville, culminating in his founding of the Swedish American Museum in 1976” according to the Chamber. The evening’s final award “was the crowd favorite,” and went to Women and Children First after some deliberation and voting by the Gala’s attendees.
