Alderman’s response to Monday’s homicide

From Alderman Osterman’s 48th Ward Office email:

Last night, at approximately 11:45 p.m., a 32-year old man was fatally shot in the alley of the 5800 block between Kenmore and Sheridan. The police are currently investigating this homicide and reviewing surveillance cameras from the area of the shooting. The victim is known for having past gang affiliations, has multiple arrests on his record, and was seen to be arguing with individuals prior to the shooting.

I have spoken with both area Police commanders, who have indicated that increased police activity will be dispatched to this section of our community. Additionally, Area 3 gang and tactical units will be detailed here in order to more effectively identify and remove gang members and drug dealers.

Given the victim’s past gang affiliations, there is a concern for possible retaliation; therefore, the police are working vigilantly to increase patrol in this area. As the investigation progresses, I expect to have more information on this incident later this week; in the meantime, should you have any information on this shooting that could be useful to the police, please contact my office at (773) 784-5277 or reach out to the 20th Police District at (312) 742-8710.

Please feel free to contact my office at (773) 784-5277 or Harry@48thward.org if you have any questions or concerns.
